While working as a science writer for the USDA Forest Service, I contributed to the Science Update publication series.

Science Updates were designed to be magazine-style explorations of big research questions.

 

I loved writing these, for several reasons:

1. I could use them to illustrate the power of science to help us collectively solve problems,

2. I could illuminate the human side of science,

3. they provided a format for synthesizing research across different studies and disciplines, and 

4. I could bring in the voices of external partners who used the research.
